Great carpeting is a rather large investment, that is, if the buyer is interested seeking longevity, resilience and definitely for appearance. Regular maintenance is needed to prolong the life of your new carpet through proper cleaning techniques. We will discuss how to clean a carpet for the best care to your real investment.
Vacuuming
Redline Carpet & Upholstery Care offers vacuuming service as an elective option with cleaning.
Before vacuuming use a carpet rake to remove large dry soils a vacuum cleaner will not accept. Large dry soils consist of nails, screws, large pieces of food, and especially hairpins. These types of items may plug your vacuum causing an unnecessary repair. Carpet should be vacuumed twice a week and several times in main 'traffic' areas where foot traffic is predominant. While vacuuming traffic areas, use the machine in two opposing directions for effectiveness. An Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certified Technician (I.I.C.R.C.) will explain at least twice or three times per week for medium-traffic areas and daily for heavy-traffic areas if asked. Regular vacuuming is important to remove dry particulate soils which, over time, act as a microscopic knife cutting the fibers in traffic areas and removing the vibrant appearance besides fiber breakdown.
If unsure about selecting vacuum cleaner, choose one with dual motors and HEPA filtration. One motor will operate the beater bar while the other operates the suction. HEPA filtration eliminates dry particulate soils from becoming airborne, causing breathing issues and eliminating particulates to fall back to the carpet. Redline Carpet & Upholstery Care does offer vacuum cleaners for sale new or used.
Tip: Take time to adjust the beater bar height so that the brushes are just touching the top surface of the carpet face fibers.
Hot Water Extraction Hot water extraction or (HWE) is the primary cleaning method chosen by carpet manufacturers such as Shaw and Mohawk. The given example is to illustrate especially nylon carpet materials simply because nylon is a popular carpet fiber chosen because of its resilience and durability. Choice of cleaning solutions is important to organic and green cleaning measures to promote Redline Carpet & Upholstery Care’s Pet Friendly, Child Safe stand for healthy homes.
HWE is a process in which a pre-treatment is sprayed on to the carpet. Pre-Treatments, especially to which Redline Carpet & Upholstery Care uses are surfactants (surface active agents). Surfactants are organic molecules that reduce the surface tension of water to aide in suspending and removing soils. This quite simply breaks the soil bond emulsifying and suspending it to the surface of the carpet. The pre-treatment process is also working with alkalinity to provide water softening and protect the surfactant substances to work more efficiently. Pre-softened water builds to the cleaning process.
The second process is encapsulation followed by extraction. Encapsulation removes the pre-treatment, oils and soil. Hot water is introduced with the cleaning process because for every 18 degrees Fahrenheit added to a starting point of 118 degrees doubles the cleaning ability. When Redline Carpet & Upholstery Care uses 197 degrees in the cleaning process, thus 32 times the cleaning ability, we call this chemical doubling. Alongside the hot water acting as an active ingredient to the cleaning process the carpet pile’s “memory” is actually reset to stand upright because of the hot water. These are important feature’s not offered with other cleaning methods.
Redline Carpet & Upholstery Care uses a system called TACT. Briefly described as Temperature, Agitation, Chemical, and Time.
Drying
Carpet should ideally be dry between 4 to 6 hours, a little longer for heavily soil issues. If pet odor issues are at hand the time is negotiable to the problem being addressed.
